Everfresh

‘Everfresh’ (C. mollissima) is a selection from the Michigan State University experiment station at Benton Harbor. The cultivar displayed consistent (but not high) yields in Michigan and unique characters that enabled frost avoidance when most C. mollissima cultivars experienced losses. The tree is a slow-growing tree and has heavy catkin sets. ‘Everfresh’ nuts, true to their name, have a uniquely long shelf life. Stored properly, nuts from this cultivar keep into the summer following their harvest (Fulbright, 2021). Unfortunately, ramets of ‘Everfresh’ were susceptible to blight in MO.
